CCW/CPL Class Student Testimonials
The Following Are On File In Our Office:

"Rick, Sorry that it has taken me so long to thank you. Although the class alone can't protect me or my family from danger, it has improved our ability to defend ourselves. The techniques and information that we covered in the class have taught me to be more aware and prepared period. I am more confident and comfortable when I leave home, knowing that I'm better prepared to address potentially dangerous confrontational situations. Once again thank you and I look forward to Session II (Personal Protection Outside The Home Course)."
- Mr. A. L. Odell III, Auto Industry Employee, Southfield, Oakland County, Michigan 48075
"Hello Rick. Sorry it took so long to get back to you. Just to let you know, I've got my CCW license and I bought a 9mm S+W (M&P) semi-automatic. I had intentions of getting a revolver, but after seeing and shooting your semi-automatic, I changed my mind. As for your class, I found that you were not only knowledgeable but you were also enthusiastic. What really impressed me was the fact that when we went to the gun range, I was a little short on money, you were kind enough to let me use your gun. This is what convinced me to buy a 9mm. I appreciate your help and I would (and do) recommend your class to anyone wanting to get their permit. Thank you."
- Mr. C. W. Miller, Retiree, Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan 48219
"Rick, from the very beginning you showed a very professional demeanor. You also did this while being a friendly guy. You extended your knowledge, experience, and information, in a fun way but when it came time to get critical info or techniques across you became very serious to get the point across effectively. I totally appreciated your class and when I am ready to advance in my training in the area of becoming a 'PROFESSIONAL' in the use of a sidearm I will be in touch. I am sorry it took so long to get back to you but I pray that 'better late than never' applies. Sincerely,"
- Mr. M. Kleckler, Ferndale, Oakland County, Michigan 48220
“Rick, I want to thank you again for the class. It was very informational and helpful to my knowledge as to how to properly use and store a sidearm as well as knowing the whole concept of personal and family self-defense. Bringing in an attorney to answer legal questions was a huge plus. You mentioned something about an advanced class where there are tactical concepts and other aspects of pistol training. I may be interested in taking that class in the future. Would you have any information on that?

The range was a great experience. All the information being said was one thing, but nothing beats the experience to tie in the practical use to what was being taught in class in terms of properly handling a sidearm and to follow all the safety rules regarding it. Thanks again very much! If I have any questions I will be sure to contact you. You have been a great instructor. Sincerely,”
- Mr. H. Sam, Sterling Heights, Macomb County, Michigan 48313
"Rick Ector, you are a very funny man but very knowledgeable in the firearms department: 'It is not a bullet; it is called a round of ammunition!' 'Do not call it a weapon; it is a gun!' '8-1/2 x 11 center mass - it is going to be on the test!' I had a great time in the class. The eight hours really went quick. Keep up the good work, Rick!"
- Ms. D. R. Lambert, Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan 48224
“Hello Rick, I just wanted to thank you once again for the class. It was great information. Actually I did not know a lot of things that was taught to me. Even if you do not want to carry a gun and just want to have one in your home, the class is very useful. I have and will continue to recommend the class to everyone. It was taught in a great timely fashion, and material was explained very professionally. Thanks again!”
- Ms. S. Hardrick, Southfield, Oakland County, Michigan 48075
"Rick, prior to taking your class, my thought process was to arm and protect myself in this violent world in which we live in. You have taught me that owning and carrying a firearm also brings much more responsibility. This decision was not taken lightly and forced me to research firearms, perfecting the fit (size does matter), practice handling a firearm, loading and unloading the magazine, in addition to understanding the regulations and laws associated with owning and carrying a firearm. I just wanted to thank you and your associates with all the valuable information required to obtain a CCW license."
- Ms. T. Clifton, Harper Woods, Wayne County, Michigan 48225
"I want to thank you for your professionalism in the way you conduct yourself in making sure that your students have full knowledge of gun ownership and their responsibilities. Also, you are the only class that I have heard of that brings in an actual lawyer to discuss important and legal aspects of gun ownership.I have and will recommend your class to anyone who is interested in CCW ownership. P.S I love walking around armed. Your friend,"
- Mr. H. Lee, Dearborn, Wayne County, Michigan, 48124
"Rick and his team run a top-notch class focusing on safe, effective, and responsible pistol ownership and operation. It was entertaining, educational, and very complete. My wife and I walked away extremely satisfied and confident in our new skills and knowledge. No matter what your background or level of experience is, this class is perfect for anyone who is interested in protecting themselves and gaining the piece of mind that all law abiding citizens deserve."
- Mr. J.D., Macomb County, Michigan
"Mr. Ector: I very much enjoyed your firearm safety class on February 24, 2008. I have been around guns (weapons for us military types) all of my life. Your comments about Rule Number Zero, "All weapons will be treated as if they are loaded even if we have confirmed that they are not," is a basic rule and is one that I learned as a child on the farm in Pennsylvania.

The class was very informative and your repeated insructions and demonstrations on the important safety precautions, that each of us will need to follow to prevent accidents, was outstanding. The additional information provided from your legal counsel was also very good.

In summary, I will recommend anyone seeking to learn about handguns attend your class. You have my permission to quote from my comments and use those quotations in your ads, brochures, mailings, and other marketing promotions. Good Luck! Thanks for the class."
- Mr. R. W. Bryson, Harrison Township, Macomb County, Michigan 48045

FAQs: Info About Our CCW/CPL Class

General Questions About Our Gun Safety Class

  • Is Your Training Service Suitable For Macomb County CCW/CPL Applicants?
Yes. Our training is valid for all 83 counties in the state of Michigan. Also, unlike MCOLEs certified firearm instructors, an NRA certified instructor is qualified to conduct gun safety courses in all 50 states of the United States.

  • Is There A Minimum Age For Attendance In This Class?
Yes. We require that students must be at least eighteen years of age by the date of the class.

  • I Can't Locate A Babysitter. Can I Bring My Well-Behaved Child To Class?
    No.

  • Are There Any Students That You Will Not Train?
Yes. We reserve the right not to accept anyone as a student. Of course, felons are prohibited by law from being anywhere near a gun. Thus, anyone who identifies themselves as such will not be accepted. Further, we will not train anyone who, in our opinion, lacks the maturity to observe safety rules.

  • I Am Pregnant. Can I Take Your Class?
Protecting the health and welfare of your unborn child is of paramount importance. You should consult with your doctor for authorization to participate. In the past, we have trained pregnant students, within their first trimester, without an adverse reaction. In contrast, there have been pregnant students, well into their pregnancies, who attempted to participate in the class but couldn't because the baby didn't react favorably to the loudness of gun-fire.

  • What Is Expected Of Me As A Student In Your Class?
As a student in our class, we expect that you will:

    • Arrive on time for class
    • Arrive back on time from breaks
    • Respect your fellow students
    • Observe all safety rules
    • Participate in all activities
    • Complete the examination
    • Bring a positive attitude

  • How Many Students Are In Your Class?
We limit our class size to 15 students. Other training providers cram upwards of 50 people together in crowded facilities. Most students appreciate an environment where they are comfortable physically and at ease mentally to ask questions in a non-intimidating setting.

  • Does Your Class Cover The Legal Aspects Of Gun Ownership?
Yes. We cover all the laws that the state of Michigan expects CPL licensees to know before carrying a firearm. In contrast, a lot of shady operators in southeast Michigan break the law by not providing this critical information

  • I Am "On-Call" With My Employer. What Happens To Me If I Get Called Out Of The Class?
You will need to complete the sections of the training class you missed before you can pass the class. If you were able to stay long enough to have heard the legal section, we can reschedule an appointment to finish the class privately. Else, you'll have to sit in on another class to complete your training.

  • Who Teaches The Legal Aspects Of Gun Ownership In Your Class?
We only allow qualified state of Michigan bar approved attorneys to teach the legal section of our class. Many other companies sacrifice your liberties by allowing law enforcement officials deliver this material.

  • Do Students Take An Examination In This Class?
Yes. The exam is 25 questions long and must be completed before a student can pass the class.

  • Do Students Need To Study/Read Anything Before Attending Class?
No. There are no pre-class assignments for this class.

  • It's Been Years Since I Have Taken A Class. How Difficult Is The Class To Pass?
If you come to class on time, participate in all activities, have a good attitude, complete the exam, and observe all safety rules, you'll be fine.

  • Do You Need Prior Gun Handling/Shooting Experience Before Enrolling In This Class?
No. We assume that all students do not have any prior handgun experiences. We'll teach you everything you need to know to safely handle, load, use, and unload a firearm.

  • Do Students Shoot In This Class?
Yes. State law requires that each student shoots at least 30 rounds of ammunition.

  • Do Students Shoot On The Same Day Of Class?
Yes. The first part of the training is delivered in a classroom setting. The class concludes at a local target range where each student shoots his state mandated quantity of 30 rounds of ammunition.

  • Where Do You Teach The Classroom Portion Of The Class?
We teach the classroom portion of the course in leased hotel conference rooms.

  • What Target Range Do You Use For The Class?
There are several ranges in the metro-Detroit area. We are not obligated by contract to use any specific one. We visit ranges all the time and will use the one - that in our opinion at the time - provides the best value for our students.

  • Is My Gun Suitable For Use In Your Class?
The statute does not specify a minimum handgun caliber to be used during the shooting exercise. However, since we believe that the minimum acceptable handgun caliber that one should carry for personal protection is at least a 9mm or higher, we want you to use that size of a gun in our class: 9mm, .40, 10mm, or .45.

  • What Gun Do You Have Your Students Rent At The Range?
We suggest that our students rent Glock™ 9mm handguns at the range for their shooting exercise.

  • Can I Bring My Handgun To Class?
Yes. Be sure to properly transport it. Also, please recall that there is no live ammunition in the classroom.

  • Can I Borrow A Handgun To Bring To Your Class?
Yes. However, unless you have a CPL, you will need to take it to your local law enforcement agency to have it safety inspected (registered in your name). You will have to follow the "handgun purchase process" as if you are buying the gun. Then, after you take the class, return it to its owner so that he can have it safety inspected (re-registered in his name). The law is so cumbersome that you are better off just renting a handgun at the range.

  • Can I Bring My Ammunition, In Its Original Box, To Class?
No. However, you can leave it in your car until we go to the range. Ammunition, not in its original packaging, should not be brought to the range. In this case, you'll have to buy ammunition from the range.

  • How Many Days Does It Take To Complete Your Class?
Our class delivery takes one eight (8) hour day.

  • I Was In The Military. Do You Have A Shorter Class For Someone With My Experience.
No. You will need to take same eight (8) hour class that everyone else must take.

  • At The End Of The Class Will I Have My CPL?
No. Upon successful completion of our course, you will receive a certificate of completion that you will present to your County Clerk when you submit your application for the CPL.

  • How Long After I Successfully Complete The Class Do I Have To Apply For A CPL?
Most county gun boards will not honor a CPL Class Completion Certificate older than one year.

  • Is There A Dress Code For Your Michigan CCW/CPL Class?
In general terms, there is no dress code. However, you need to ensure that you are comfortable. If possible, wear a long sleeved shirt, a baseball cap, and avoid tops with low necklines. Also, avoid both high heeled and open-toed shoes; hot shell casings may cause you some discomfort if they come into contact with your skin.

  • Do I Have to Own A Gun Before I Take Your Michigan CCW/CPL Class?
No. You can inexpensively rent a gun at the target range. If you don't have a pressing need to buy a gun before the class, wait until after you complete class before you make a gun purchase. We extensively cover the things that you need to be aware of to ensure that you buy the right gun for you and your needs.

  • How Do I Legally Transport My Gun To The Michigan CCW/CPL Class?
The proper way to transport a gun in your car, without a CCW/CPL, is to have it (the gun) unloaded, separated from ammunition, and locked in a gun case in your car's trunk. If you are bringing your gun to our training class, do not bring live ammunition inside to the classroom.

  • Do I Need To Bring Anything To Class?
Please bring the following items to class:
    • Michigan Driver's License or Michigan state issued ID
    • Unloaded 9mm or higher caliber handgun (if already owned)
    • 30 Rounds of factory boxed ammunition (leave in your car)
    • Shooting glasses (if already owned)
    • Hearing protection (if already owned)
    • Baseball cap
    • Positive attitude
